From Cochrane RCMP:
Theft from motor vehicles and theft of motor vehicles impacts all residents and visitors and alike. Cochrane RCMP is committed to interrupting and reducing this criminal activity, and will employ a number of prevention and enforcement tactics to combat these issues. As part of a Crime Prevention Strategy, a “Theft Prevention” placard containing educational tips to reduce the opportunity for victimization has been developed. In the coming weeks, police officers from the Cochrane RCMP in partnership with Cochrane Citizens On Patrol (C.O.P.) will be patrolling neighbourhoods and placing theft prevention placards in vehicles that are found to be insecure. Vehicles discovered insecure will be locked to prevent thefts. It is strongly recommended valuables including house, business and vehicle keys are not left in vehicles at any time. Any items left in locked vehicles should not be visible. Unattended vehicles, left running, with keys in the ignition provide an easy opportunity for thieves. Help combat thefts by remaining in idling vehicles or consider equipping your vehicle with a “remote start” mechanism.
Anyone with information about person(s) responsible for these crimes or wish to report suspicious activity are asked to call the Cochrane RCMP at 403-932-2211.
