Cochrane, AB – Cochrane is seeking community and area artists to submit a proposal to create one of three public sculpture installations for the Cochrane Crossing Civic Plaza Art Project, located at The Station.
As an important addition to the area, the public artwork will enrich the downtown experience for residents and visitors. Therefore, the project includes three different opportunities for artists to create pieces of art that reflect the following themes: truth and reconciliation, innovation and diversity.
“Thanks to the Canada Community Revitalization Fund, we are able to support the Cochrane Crossing Civic Plaza Art Project at The Station,” says Mitchell Hamm, Community Services Director, Town of Cochrane. “By having such a centrally located, community-driven space to display these artworks, we have an incredible opportunity to visually demonstrate who Cochrane is and what the community represents.”
Community artists, including local-professional artists, hobbyists, emerging artists residing in the Bow Valley, or those with a connection to the community are asked to submit a proposal before the application deadline on December 29, 2022.
All applicants will be evaluated by the Cochrane Crossing Civic Plaza Art Task Force, based on the highlighted criteria in the Call for Submissions. The shortlisted applicants will be invited to an in-person interview where the finalists will be determined. At a minimum, one of the selected finalists must be a local/regional indigenous artist.
Located at 360 Railway Street W, The Station at Cochrane Crossing is a central hub for transit, municipal services and Cochrane Information. With the new CP Rail pedestrian crossing, linking Historic Downtown and the commercial district, The Station is a central hub for connection and community.
