Investment grant program ignites stronger community connections

Create a spark in your community

(Cochrane, AB) – Local not-for-profit groups planning an event or festival in 2024 can apply for municipal grant funding support. Until May 1, 2024, Cochrane is accepting applications for the Community Investment Grant Program (CIGP). Projects, events and festivals led by non-profit societies are eligible for matching funding through small- and large-scale grants.

Since 2012, Cochrane Council and Administration have actively supported these opportunities to bring Cochranites together. Through the program, Cochrane partners with not-for-profit societies to start or continue an event, fostering a sense of unity and belonging while bringing people together to celebrate and have fun.

Natalie Germann, Cochrane Community Event Liaison, expresses, "The unparalleled passion, creativity, and dedication exhibited by the residents, workers, and volunteers in Cochrane are truly remarkable. This grant program presents an exhilarating opportunity to enhance the initiatives of groups that unite people, cultivate joy, and foster connections."

The community grant program is open to not-for-profit societies within Cochrane. Projects, events and festivals that are accessible, inclusive, and engaging for all residents with a focus on arts, culture, heritage, community building, community and environmental stewardship are ideal initiatives supported by the grant. In 2023, 21 small-scale projects and events and five large-scale events were successful in receiving matching funding from the Community Investment Grant Program.

"Everyone has the power to make a positive impact in our community," adds Mayor Genung. "Large or small, we hope this grant program will inspire and support community members to deliver events that bring us  together.”

Applications will be evaluated on their community goals and enrichment in alignment with the Community Investment Grant Program and Cochrane’s Strategic Plan. The community investment grant program is approved in the annual operating budget and includes:

  • $5,400 for community association grants (up to $500 each)
  • $60,000 for small scale festival and event matching grants (up to $2,500 each)
  • $60,000 for large scale festival and event matching grants (up to $15,000 each)
