Property Tax Bills On The Way

(Cochrane, AB) – Starting this week, Cochrane property owners can look for their property tax bill, as 15,670 residential and non-residential 2023 property tax bills were mailed out. Property tax payments are due in full by Friday, June 30 to avoid any late payment penalties.

Residents may not be aware that the funds collected through property taxes are split between supporting municipal services and supporting provincial education, with 67% allocated directly to the Town of Cochrane to provide municipal services, 32% allocated to the Government of Alberta, supporting education and 0.6% allocated to support seniors housing.

“Your property taxes directly support the municipal services that residents use daily, such as parks and pathways, waste and organics, and community safety,” explained Alvin Allim, Director of Financial & Information Technology Services, Town of Cochrane. “It’s important to recognize that more than a third of the property taxes collected are allocated to the Province to support provincial education and seniors' affordable housing through the Rocky View Foundation.”

Cochrane offers a variety of payment options, including the installment payment program (TIPP). TIPP is a popular program which allows you to pay your property taxes on a monthly basis instead of one payment in June, making budgeting easier and removing the risk of a late penalty payment. Property owners can register for TIPP

Alberta Land Titles is currently experiencing delays in the processing of land title transfers due to a substantial increase in real estate transactions submitted for registration. This delay may result in property owners not receiving tax bills for properties purchased in 2023. If you do not receive a property tax bill by June 7, contact taxes@cochrane.ca.  or receiving tax bills for recently sold properties. Any resident that receives a property tax bill for recently sold properties are advised to disregard the notice.

Property owners can contact Cochrane's Taxation and Assessment department with any questions or inquiries at taxes@cochrane.ca or call 403-851-2288.

Financial assistance is available to assist eligible seniors through the Cochrane Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) and the Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program (Government of Alberta).
