Unveiling Cochrane’s cultural tapestry

(Cochrane, AB) – The Cochrane Crossing Civic Plaza Art Project task force is proud to announce the recipients of its esteemed sculpture installations for the vibrant community plaza adjacent to The Station at Cochrane Crossing. Following a rigorous selection process, Cochrane is excited to unveil the chosen artists and their captivating works, further enhancing the downtown experience for residents and visitors alike.

Since its inauguration in winter 2022, The Station at Cochrane Crossing has emerged as a hub for connection, embodying the essence of community connectivity and progress. Reflecting Council's vision of a lively and innovative Cochrane, the site serves as a bridge between the town's storied past and its aspirations for the future. Community artists were invited to submit proposals for up to three outdoor public sculptures, reflecting the rich tapestry of Cochrane's stories and its dynamic future. The initiative underscores Cochrane’s dedication to fostering a vibrant public space that celebrates diversity, inclusivity, and heritage.

"The selected artworks are poised to transform the Cochrane Crossing Civic Plaza into an immersive gallery of Cochrane's deeply rooted identity and community charm," says Kristie Bell, RancheHouse Event Centre, Community Events and Culture Manager. "They will serve as beacons of inspiration and reflection for all who encounter them."

A dedicated Cochrane Crossing Civic Plaza Art Task Force reviewed submissions, evaluating each proposal based on thematic relevance, artistic technique, emotional resonance, creativity, and suitability for the space and its diverse patrons. Following their recommendations, Council made the final selections, heralding a new chapter in Cochrane's artistic landscape.

The call to submissions has been awarded to:
