Information for voters

HOW CAN I VOTE?

Election Day

Voting stations will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Election Day (Monday, October 18, 2021).

Polling Station 1:
Frank Wills Memorial Hall, 405 1 St E, Cochrane
Polling Station 2:  
Cochrane Alliance Church, 902 Glenbow Drive Cochrane
Polling Station 3:    
Cochrane RancheHouse, 101 RancheHouse Road


Eligibility to Vote

You are eligible to vote if you:

• are at least 18 years old;
• are a Canadian citizen; and
• your place of residence is in the Town of Cochrane.


Voter Identification Requirements

In order to vote, you must prove your identity and address with one of the following:

1. Government issued ID that shows both your name and current address.

2. Two pieces of ID; ensure that both contain your full name, and that one piece shows your current physical address.

Advance Voting

You can still vote even if you cannot make it to your voting station on Election Day. Advance voting is when you cast your ballot before the Election Day.

Advance Poll 1: October 9, 2021
Spray Lakes Sawmills Sports Centre (Gymnasium) 10:00am to 4:00pm
Advance Poll 2: October 12, 2021  
Cochrane RancheHouse – 4:00pm to 8:00pm
Advance Poll 3: October 14, 2021
Cochrane RancheHouse – 4:00pm to 8:00pm
Advance Poll 4: October 16, 2021  
Spray  Lakes Sawmills Sports Centre (Gymnasium) 10:00am to 4:00pm


Special Ballots

You may apply for a Special Ballot if you are unable to vote at an advance vote or at the voting station on Election Day due to:

• physical disability;
• you are absent from the local jurisdiction, or
• you are an Election Officer.


Ballots will be mailed to voters after close of nominations on Monday, September 20, 2021. If you are issued a Special Ballot, it must be received by the Returning Officer no later than 4:30 p.m. on Monday, October 18, 2021. To request your Special Ballot, please complete FORM22RSE - Request for Special Ballot Package and email to: legislative@cochrane.ca or drop off your completed request at the Cochrane RancheHouse 101 RancheHouse Road to the attention of the Returning Officer.

Voting Time for Employees

According to the Local Authorities Election Act, any employee who is eligible to vote has the right to three consecutive hours for voting while their voting station is open.

Student Voting

If you are only living in Cochrane temporarily (i.e. for the school year) and you normally live in another community, plan to return home to vote or contact your home municipality for voting options.

Elector Assistance

If a voter is unable to vote in the usual manner or requires assistance at any time, please speak to an election worker at the voting station.
