2023 United Way Funded Group - Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta

Junior Achievement is a partnership between the business community, educators and volunteers—all working together to prepare and inspire young people to reach their potential and succeed in today’s global economy.

Junior Achievement (JA) Southern Alberta is embarking on their most ambitious year ever, bringing financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship programming to over 55,000 students over the 2022-2023 school year – including to K-12 students right here in Cochrane! JA programs are delivered in the classroom by volunteers with real world business and life experience, making an incredible impact on young people. As one grade 5 student put it: “I had no idea how much a business needs and taking this program got me wanting to get into business myself. The program is really helpful for beginners, plus it’s cool to learn about a business’ stages!”

Junior Achievement is on a mission to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy, and ensure that young people have the skillset and mindset to build thriving communities – like our very own Cochrane. Through JA’s in-the-classroom, experiential financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship programming, students in Kindergarten through grade 12 are better prepared for whatever life brings. In fact, two thirds of surveyed JA Southern Alberta students reported feeling more optimistic about their futures because of a JA program, and over three quarters say they’re more confident that they have the knowledge and skills needed to make good financial decisions.
