What goes in the Waste Cart?

  • Regular household garbage, furnace filters, hoses
  • Diapers & baby wipes, bandages, dental floss, razors, makeup, toothbrushes, toothpaste, twist ties
  • Non-recyclable packaging, bows, ribbons, Christmas ornaments
  • Mixed material items (eg. broken toys containing metal, plastic, rubber, cloth) that can't be separated
  • Balloons, chalk, crayons, markers, envelopes, felt, gum, tape, photos, chip and candy bags, plastic straws & cutlery
  • Cassette tapes, CD's, mirrors, rope, rubber bands, stickers, yarn, wax paper products
  • Ceramic or pottery dishes, pillows, scouring pads, soap, sponges, swiffer dusters, tarps, tiles

Unacceptable Material

  • Organics and recyclable material
  • Sharp materials - glass, needles
  • Liquid waste
  • Hazardous waste or chemicals
  • Biomedical waste
  • Commercial or industrial waste
  • Dead animals
  • Construction, renovation or demolition waste
  • Gas / propane liquids or any other liquid based petroleum product
  • Rocks, cart seats, booster seats
  • Automobile waste including automobile parts, tires, and batteries
  • Engine oil or oil filters
  • Building materials and furniture
  • Compressed cylinders
  • Waste that is unsafe for the collector to access or handle
  • Waste that could cause environmental impairment

Additional Carts

A $45 set up fee and $13/month collection fee will be charged to all households who require an additional waste cart.  The Eco Centre PAYT program and excess waste bags are better options for once in a while excess waste management.  To learn more or set up additional waste cart services please call the Waste & Recycling Hotline at 403-851-2277.
