Family Paws

Tuesday, March 28, 2023

Join us for an evening of learning where our Family Paws Parent Educator will provide expecting families with practical education and support during pregnancy to increase safety and decrease concerns many new parents and families may have about the family dog. Our emphasis is on a positive, practical and preventive approach to challenges that arise with a new little one in the household. Here are some highlights: - Dogs & Storks™ is an international program created by Family Paws Parent Education that helps expecting families with dogs prepare for life with baby. - Dogs & Toddlers™ emphasizes the importance of including family dogs in a safe and comfortable manner for all. - We discuss specific ways to include family dogs in daily baby routines from the start! - We educate about different types of supervision and offer solutions for safety. - Our program addresses the changing family dynamics and how that may impact the family dog.

DAWNITA GILLMAN, CPDT-KSA , FPPE Educator Dawnita has been involved with the Cochrane & Area Humane Society for over 14 years and considers the ability to be able to work with people and their pets a privilege. She is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge & Skills Assessed (CPDT-KSA) through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, holds a professional membership with the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and is a licensed Family Paws™ Parent Education Educator. As well as her love for animals, Dawnita has a zeal for further education in the areas of animal behaviour and rehabilitation, coaching and training, building respectful relationships between animals and the people that interact with them, assisting in ways to help shelter pets be placed in loving homes and in keeping pets in their existing homes through professional support and guidance. Her goal is to focus on strengthening the human-dog relationship through positive reinforcement, reward based training, clear communication & better understanding of the companion dog.
