The Town of Cochrane fully supports crossing guard programs. Traffic safety has been identified as one of Municipal Enforcement’s top priorities for 2019, this includes safety of pedestrians where there is opportunity for conflict. Given high traffic volumes during peak periods of the day, school zones and nearby pedestrian crossings can increase opportunities for conflict. In accordance with applicable legislation and for everyone’s safety, crossing guard programs do not include management of traffic flow, only ensuring that pedestrians are visible to the motoring public and are escorted across roadways when and where it is safe to do so. Municipal Enforcement will continue to support crossing guard programs and other appropriate initiatives to ensure the safety of our children and safe flow of traffic within Cochrane’s school zones.
