Town Council approved the land use amendments for Sunset Ridge Stage 3 at their March 11 meeting.
The variety of land use set out within the neighborhood plan aims to create a complete community, with a mixture of residential, commercial, park and school sites.
“This is the final step in Council approvals to allow for the secondary access and roadway infrastructure improvements,” explained Mayor Jeff Genung. “The land use amendments approved by Council allow for a number of community features including a new school site, off-leash dog park, playground, outdoor ice rink and multi-sport court.”
Timing is an important component of the project. Residential building in Sunset Ridge Stage 2 will be complete prior to any development within Stage 3. Residential building in Sunset Ridge Stage 3 can include up to 150 units prior to the required infrastructure improvements needing to be completed. These include the widening of Highway 22, the addition of dual turn lanes at Sunset Boulevard, and the completion of the secondary access.
The community has had engagement opportunities throughout the process, with the public hearing as the last opportunity for the community to provide input before Council’s decision.
The Sunset Ridge neighbourhood has been in development since 2005.
