Community groups plan and run some of Cochrane’s most popular events. But these (largely) volunteer groups often do it with very limited resources.
The Town of Cochrane supports local groups through the community grant program. The Town’s 2020 budget includes $333,319 for community partnerships, which includes community grants. The funds can be used by groups for a variety of projects, events or capital expenditures.
“Cochrane has an excellent community spirit and a huge number of volunteers,” says Mayor Jeff Genung. “Sometimes a financial boost can make all the difference for success.”
The Town encourages applications from registered, not-for-profit organizations that impact a broad cross-section of the community and promote a positive community spirit.
Funding criteria are strict: groups can apply for up to 50% of the total funding required for a project or event to a maximum of $2,500. Projects must be completed within 12 months of receiving funds, with follow-up reporting due within three months of completion.
In 2019, 31 projects were approved for a total of $44,766 in community grants.
Groups have until May 1 to apply.
