(Cochrane, AB) – To support the Provincial Highway 1A/22 interchange project, the Town is coordinating the removal of approximately 20 highway-adjacent trees in the project area to support project advancement.
“Council and Administration continue to work with Alberta Transportation to remove barriers and pave the path to see this project advance,” said Mayor Genung.
The majority of the mature trees will be protected with respect to preserving key ecosystem components and preserving Cochrane’s natural spaces. Survey of the site took place Wednesday, February 23. Prior to the clearing of any trees, the area will be reviewed by a biologist to confirm there are no established bird nests. After the review is complete, tree removal is scheduled to begin shortly thereafter.
Alberta Transportation has advised that formal construction of the interchange is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2022. Project updates are available at Cochrane.ca/Interchange or https://www.alberta.ca/cochrane-interchange.aspx.
