Today launches the Town of Cochrane’s participation in National Mental Health Week. The one-week campaign, running from May 2-8 promotes ‘GettingReal’ about mental health, focusing on how empathy can have a positive impact on the mental health of others.
In support of Mental Health Week, The Town of Cochrane’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is hosting three scavenger hunts to encourage residents to explore the community and reflect on the ways that they can promote their own mental health and contribute to positive mental health of those around them. The scavenger hunts include one at Glenbow Ranch, historic downtown and an ‘adventure from anywhere’ hunt ongoing throughout the month of May.
“By taking the time to listen and practice empathy, we help people feel seen, heard and understood,” says Kim Krawec, Manager of Family and Community Support Services, Town of Cochrane. “The planned scavenger hunts across town are a great way to get people out in the community, have fun and enjoy the company of others.”
On May 28, 1-3pm, FCSS and the Family Resource Network (FRN) are also hosting a pop-up mental health event at their office (209 Second Ave W). The event features participation gifts, prizes, crafts and other activities, offering the community an opportunity to connect with resources and enjoy the company of others.
