Cochrane, AB – Starting this week, Cochrane property owners can find their property tax bill in the mail. The Town of Cochrane mailed 15,260 residential and non-residential 2022 property tax notices on May 30. The property tax payment deadline is Thursday, June 30.
Cochrane offers a variety of payment methods, including the tax installment payment plan (TIPP), which divides the property tax bill into monthly payments. Property owners can avoid late payment penalty by submitting payment or joining TIPP by June 30. Starting July 1, property owners with an unpaid balance will accrue a seven per cent penalty, including property owners who did not receive their tax bill in the mail.
Due to processing delays at the Alberta Land Titles Office this year, ownership and address change updates are approximately three months behind.
"The Alberta Land Titles Office is Cochrane's only record of property ownership information," explained Gail Butz, Manager of Assessment and Tax. "Property owners who do not receive their tax bill by June 7 are encouraged to contact us to pay their property tax bill and avoid the July 1 payment penalty."
In addition to Cochrane's legislated municipal contribution to Alberta Education (32.5%), Cochrane invests property tax into municipal services that residents use daily, such as parks and pathways, waste and organics, and community safety and services. A portion of the property tax payment also supports Seniors' Affordable Housing through the Rocky View Foundation.
Residents can reach out to Cochrane's Assessment and Tax department at taxes@cochrane.ca or call 403-851-2288 to obtain a statement of account and review their outstanding taxes owing.
Financial assistance is available to assist eligible seniors through the Seniors Property Tax Program offered by Cochrane Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) and the Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program (Government of Alberta).
