1. What is the cost of using the Block Party Trailer?

We are pleased to offer the Community Block Party Trailer free of charge. 

2. Do I need to provide propane?

Yes, due to safety during transportation, you will need to supply your own propane. 

3. Where and when do I pick up the Block Party Trailer keys?

Keys for the Block Party Trailer are provided upon successful completion of all required paperwork (booking and event application). Arrangements for pick-up and return will be coordinated no more than two days in advance of the booking and can be picked-up at the FCSS offce. (#1, 209 Second Ave W.) 

4. Does my vehicle insurance cover the trailer while in transport?

Regulations state  that when transporting a trailer, the liability coverage on the towing vehicle automatically extends to the towed vehicle. This is the case as long as the towing vehicle is insured according to provincial minimums (third party liability or commonly referred to as PLPD). 

5. Can I close a road or street for my Block Party?

Yes, but an event permit must be approved by our Community Event Administrator prior to the event.

6. What is required to book/use the Block Party Trailer?

Drivers license, proof of insurance, and $50 refundable deposit.

7. What are the requirements for towing the Block Party Trailer?

Tow Vehicle Requirements:

1. Tow vehicle must have a minimum trailer towing capacity from the manufacturer of 7,000lbs.
2. Tow vehicle must be equipped with a functioning trailer brake controller.  Controller must be adjusted properly after connecting to trailer.
3. Check trailer emergency “breakaway” switch.
4. Tow vehicle must have a hitch receiver rated for a minimum of 7,000lbs.  The hitch receiver must be able to accommodate safety chains.  Owner to check for security and condition prior to pick up. 
5. Tow vehicle must have a 2 5/16” ball hitch rated for a minimum of 7,000lbs.  Owner to check for security and condition prior to pick up.
6. Trailer safety chains must be connected to tow vehicle hitch receiver before towing.  Chains must be crossed.
7. Tow vehicle must have a 7-pin round trailer electrical receptacle to accommodate trailer braking and lighting.  All lights must be tested before departure.
8. Tow vehicle must be equipped with extendable trailer tow mirrors and must be adjusted before departure.
9. Ensure Trailer tires are properly inflated, and lug nuts are secure.
10. Ensure all Trailer doors are secured and locked before departure.
11. When backing the Trailer up a ground guide must be used.
12. Trailer doors must be locked with supplied locks when not in use.
13. Trailer hitch lock must be used on Trailer hitch when unattached from the tow vehicle. Trailers cannot be left on street without being attached to a vehicle (Cochrane Traffic Bylaw No.02/2005 Section 12. Parking Restrictions and Prohibitions 12.11 No person shall park any trailer (whether designed for occupancy or for the carrying of goods and equipment), upon any road/highway unless said trailer is fully attached to a vehicle by which it may be safely and lawfully drawn along a road/highway.
14. The Trailer will not be towed outside of the municipal boundaries of the Town of Cochrane.
