(Cochrane, AB) – Get ready, Cochrane! Bird e-scooters, a pioneer in electric micromobility, is gearing up to make a return to Cochrane on May 20 for the summer season. These sleek e-scooters can be effortlessly activated through Bird’s user-friendly mobile app, offering a convenient and eco-friendly alternative to traditional car trips for running errands, socializing, or exploring our vibrant community.

To enhance accessibility and affordability, Bird is introducing additional ride passes this year, including monthly and multi-day options. This initiative aims to make e-scooter travel accessible to a broader range of residents and visitors.

Strategically stationed across Cochrane, with a strong presence in Historic Downtown and the Quarry, Bird e-scooters will be readily available for riders. Residents can easily navigate bike lanes and pathways using Cochrane’s interactive map on Cochrane.ca or through the trails and pathways layer on Google Maps.

All e-scooter users are expected to adhere to provincial regulations and road rules, prioritizing safety measures akin to cyclists. Riders must be aged 16 or above, with helmets strongly recommended for safety, though not mandatory. When parking, riders are urged to do so considerately, ensuring no obstruction to sidewalks, driveways, bike lanes, or pathways.

Michelle Delorme, Manager of Community Services, emphasized Cochrane’s commitment to fostering a vibrant and sustainable environment through its partnership with Bird. “Since its launch in 2021, the shared electric scooter pilot program has been instrumental in advancing Cochrane's dedication to environmental sustainability and diversified transportation options,” said Delorme.

The shared electric scooter pilot program, slated to run until the end of 2024, will undergo public interest assessment for potential continuation thereafter.
