Town of Cochrane Council are pleased to announce Dave Devana as the Town of Cochrane’s new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), to begin October 10.
As CAO, Devana will lead development, implementation, and administration of all policies and programs established and approved by Council; guide and advise Council on legislation and municipal operations; and provide information to support Council in making informed decisions.
Working alongside Council and staff, he will also provide vision, leadership and direction to the organization based on the strategic plan and approved policies.
Mayor Ivan Brooker said the appointment is an exceptional one.
“We are excited to have attracted a candidate of Dave’s caliber to Cochrane,” says Mayor Brooker. “He has more than 17 years’ senior management experience in local government in the roles of CAO, Deputy CAO and Chief Financial Officer. Dave’s strong background and relevant experience will serve this organization and our community well.”
Devana is a Chartered Professional Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting and Finance from Acadia University. Professional activities include speaking at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM).
Mayor Brooker acknowledged the contribution of Lori Craig, who became the Interim CAO after the retirement of long-time CAO Julian deCocq at the end of June.
"We are extremely grateful to Lori for shouldering this responsibility during a time of transition for the Town,” Brooker noted.
Craig will be retiring from the Town in December. Suzanne Gaida, former Senior Manager, Community Services, has been promoted to the position of Deputy CAO.
