Cochrane encourages residents to shape the future by voting

(Cochrane, AB) – Every vote helps shape Cochrane’s future. Residents are encouraged to have their say by casting a ballot on election day or taking advantage of advance voting opportunities ahead of Monday, October 20.

With today’s busy schedules, voting has never been easier. Residents can avoid the election day rush by choosing from four advance polling dates and locations that best fit their schedule.

“Every vote helps shape the future of our community,” said Jaylene Robertson, Director of Legislative and Administrative Services, Town of Cochrane. “By offering multiple advance voting opportunities and convenient election day polling locations, we are making it easier for all eligible residents to take part in this important process.

In the 2021 Cochrane municipal election, just 33 per cent of eligible voters cast a ballot. This year, Cochrane is encouraging residents to improve on that number by getting out and voting, making their voices heard. 

On Monday, October 20, election day, the polls will be open extended hours from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

Every eligible voter may cast one vote for mayor and cast votes for up to six councillors, with the freedom to vote at whichever polling location is most convenient.

Eligible voters must be at least 18 years old, be Canadian citizens and must reside in Cochrane on election day. Government-issued identification that shows a name and current residential address is required. Voters not already registered on Alberta’s Permanent Electors Register may register in person at the polling station of their choice.
