A change of tenancy review confirms that a proposed business and location comply with the land use bylaw. It also helps the Town maintain accurate records of permitted business activities on a property.
You must complete a change of tenancy review before applying for a building permit for renovations or obtaining a business licence.
A change of tenancy application is required when:
- the proposed business type is a Permitted Use within the applicable land use district
- there is no increase to the gross floor area of the building or unit
- a development permit was previously issued for a home business (Home Occupation - Class 2) and a new business type is proposed that meets all the previous approval conditions
If these conditions are not met, a development permit may be required instead.
How do I apply for a change of tenancy?
To apply:
- complete the change of tenancy form
- email the form to planning@cochrane.ca for review
There is no fee for a change of tenancy application. Once reviewed, you will receive a signed copy of the form. The review may identify the need for a development permit or building permit.
