To make sure that a proposed business and location complies with the Land Use Bylaw, we follow a Change of Tenancy process. This process also helps us maintain a record of the current permitted activities on a property.
A Change of Tenancy application is required when:
- The proposed business type is a Permitted Use within the relevant land use district.
- There is no increase to the gross floor area of the building or unit.
- A Development Permit was previously issued for a Home Occupation Class 2, but a new business type is proposed that meets all the previous approval conditions.
You will need to submit a Change of Tenancy application before you can receive a Building Permit for renovations or obtain your Business License.
How do I apply for a Change of Tenancy?
To apply for a Change of Tenancy, complete the Change of Tenancy form and send it to planning@cochrane.ca for review. Please note that there is no fee associated with the Change of Tenancy application process.
Once complete, you will be provided with a signed copy of the form. Please note, during this review it may be determined that a Development Permit and/or a Building Permit is required instead or in addition to the Tenancy Change application.
