Payment methods

Cochrane offers a variety of payment methods for property taxes. Credit cards or  e-transfers are not accepted.

Tax Installment Payment Plan

The Tax Installment Payment Plan (TIPP) allows home and business owners to break up their property tax payments into smaller monthly installments. Payments are automatically debited from a personal chequing account on the 15th day of each month. Your installments are adjusted annually to reflect any tax changes for the current year.

Bank or credit union payments

Cochrane is registered with all major banks and credit unions. You can pay taxes in person or online through your financial institution’s online or mobile banking service.

To set up online banking:

  • Add a new bill payee — look for “Cochrane Taxes Alberta” or “Town of Cochrane Taxes Alberta” (it can also come up as “AB” or “Alta”).
  • Do not select payees labelled “ON” or “Ontario.”
  • Use your roll number for the account number.

Payments cannot be made through automated banking machines. To avoid a late-payment penalty, confirm payment processing times with your financial institution.

Drop box payments

Payments can be dropped off any time outside of regular business hours. Two drop box locations are available:

  • Family & Community Support Services  — 209 Second Ave. W.
  • Cochrane RancheHouse   — 101 RancheHouse Rd.

Paying in person

When paying in person, bring your property tax bill. We accept cheques postdated on or before the due date indicated on your tax bill. If paying with Interac, make sure your daily limit covers the payment amount.

 In-person hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

  • Cochrane RancheHouse  — 101 RancheHouse Rd.
  • The Station at Cochrane Crossing — 360 Railway St. W.

Paying by mail

  • To avoid a late-payment penalty, the envelope must be postmarked by Canada Post on or before the due date.
