Community Event Planning

Use of Cochrane fire pits are permitted for small, private events on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please check the current fire hazard status before use.

Did you know you can borrow a three stream waste diversion container from the town for your community event? These containers are available at no cost to help your community event send less to the landfill.

Once you’ve decided on a location for your event, you can use the town's interactive maps to create a site plan. You will need a site plan that includes all event features to apply for a Festival and Event Permit. Cochrane’s interactive maps show parks, pathways, playgrounds, public washrooms, and other amenities you’ll need to consider while planning your event.

If you are a local non-profit community organization planning an event, you may request space on Cochrane’s two digital signs to promote your event.

If you are planning an event that will have amplified or sustained noise, you will need to apply for a Noise Control Bylaw Exemption in accordance with the Noise Control Bylaw.

If you would like to invite the Mayor to your community event, please submit a Mayor Invite Request.

There are additional resources available to help you plan your event, not offered directly through the Town: 

• Check with Alberta Health Service (1-833-476-4743) to find out if you must notify the provincial authority of your event (typically applicable for events involving personal service, petting zoos or food service).
• If your event setup involves ground disturbances (e.g., hammering spikes into the ground or digging holes), please contact Utility Safety Partners to arrange a utility locate request.
• Alberta Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis has information on liquor licences for public events.
