Cochrane is committed to regular maintenance and repair of infrastructure. Crews work throughout Town to maintain and repair roads, sidewalks and crosswalks. The maintenance season generally begins in April and runs through October. The majority of the work is usually underway in the warmest summer months.
Roads crew’s efforts include, but aren’t limited to:
- Crack sealing
- Crosswalk, curb, and parking lot painting
- Line painting
- Manhole repairs
- Pothole and asphalt repairs
- Road and alley repairs
- Sidewalk replacements
- Solar-powered crosswalk installation
- Storm sewer maintenance
- Street sweeping
Crack sealing
Crack sealing is done as a preventative measure to fill cracks in the roadways created by temperature fluctuations. If not filled, these cracks will continue to grow and will begin to affect the structural integrity of our roads. When work is taking place, the area may be dusty as the cracks will be blown out before they are filled. Material is applied to limit spreading of the sealant. Please stay back from the equipment and workers and obey signs.
Line painting
Refreshing the line painting on Cochrane roads is done on an ongoing basis, typically in the summer months. The work is completed at night when traffic is minimal to reduce disruptions.
Please stay back from the line painting equipment and avoid driving on fresh lines to prevent paint from getting on your vehicle. If paint gets on your vehicle, it is recommended to wash it as soon as possible with hot water at a pressurized car wash. The Town of Cochrane provides this information as a courtesy only and does not accept any responsibility for its use.
Sidewalk and curb repairs
Sidewalks and curbs throughout Town are repaired as needed. Large repairs are built into the annual budget. This important work ensures Cochrane's sidewalks are safe and ready for summer. Please obey barricades and signs when work is underway.
