Transit

Connectivity remains a key priority for Cochrane, strengthening both physical and social ties within the community. By linking neighborhoods, investing in roadway and pathway infrastructure and offering diverse transportation options, we’re creating a more connected and accessible town for everyone.

Exciting transit changes coming to Cochrane

The Town of Cochrane is undertaking a significant transformation of its public transit system to better serve the needs of our growing community. Over the next five years, we will implement a hybrid transit model that combines fixed routes with on-request services. These changes are designed to improve the reliability, accessibility and flexibility of our transit network.

What’s changing

  • Hybrid transit model - The new model integrates both fixed routes and on-request services to create a more flexible and reliable system. This approach allows us to serve high-demand areas while ensuring consistency along key corridors. The goal is to provide more travel options and improved service across Cochrane, meeting the diverse needs of our residents.
  • Fixed routes - Starting in the summer 2025, Cochrane will introduce its fixed-route transit system, initially launching with three bus routes. Fixed routes are based on a set schedule and serve specific, predetermined stops. These routes are designed to provide consistent and predictable service, enabling riders to plan their trips more effectively.
    • Proposed routes for 2025
      • Route 1: Sunset Ridge → Downtown → SLS Centre
      • Route 2: Heritage Hills → Downtown → Cochrane Arena / Big Hill Lodge
      • Route 3: Fireside → SLS Centre → Downtown
  • Improved access - Starting in 2025, Cochrane will introduce its fixed-route transit system, initially launching with three bus routes. Fixed routes are based on a set schedule and serve specific, predetermined stops. These routes are designed to provide consistent and predictable service, enabling riders to plan their trips more effectively.
  • Long-term growth - The new transit model is designed to support Cochrane’s long-term, sustainable growth. By improving the transit system, we aim to reduce traffic congestion, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and minimize the town’s carbon footprint while modernizing public transportation to meet the needs of a growing population.
