Sign regulations are outlined in section 10 of the land use bylaw, including guidelines on:
- types of signs
- when a sign is required
- general design and placement requirements
- signs allowed by land use district
These rules help ensure signage is appropriate and consistent with surrounding areas.
How to apply for a sign permit
Temporary signs are signs displayed for 30 days or less.
Permanent signs are displayed for more than 30 days and require a development permit.
To apply:
- complete the temporary or permanent sign application form (PDF)
- submit all required documents listed in the application checklist (PDF)
- email your application to planning@cochrane.ca
A development permit is not required to:
- maintain or repair a legally existing sign
- change or reduce the copy area of a legally existing sign
