(Cochrane, AB.) - Cochrane is gearing up to welcome athletes, families, spectators and volunteers for IRONMAN 70.3 Calgary at Cochrane, taking place July 25–26, 2026. More than 1,100 athletes from 26 countries are expected to compete, putting the town's stunning landscapes, vibrant local businesses and warm hospitality in the spotlight while generating tourism and economic benefits throughout the region.
“Cochrane is a community that shows up for one another, for our visitors and for opportunities that bring people together,” said Mayor Morgan Nagel. “We are proud to welcome this event and the energy it will bring to our town, while highlighting the local businesses, volunteers and community spirit that make Cochrane such a special place.”
The race will take participants through some of Cochrane's most scenic landscapes, including Ghost Lake, rural roads north of town, the Bow River corridor, Cochrane's pathway network and Historic Cochrane Ranche, which will serve as the event headquarters and finish area.
With a large event of this scale, residents and visitors can expect increased activity throughout race weekend, with the most significant impacts on Sunday, July 26 as athletes move through Cochrane and arrive at the finish area.
Temporary road closures are planned on Glenbow Drive and Glenpatrick Drive on Sunday, July 26, from approximately 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Additional traffic impacts are expected near Highway 22, the Sunset entrance and RancheHouse Road as cyclists move through the area. RCMP and trained event personnel will be on site, but residents should plan for delays and slower access in and out of the Sunset and RancheHouse areas on Sunday.
Designated parking will be available at Spray Lake Sawmills Centre and the Cochrane and District Agricultural Society grounds, with shuttle service operating from the Agricultural Society grounds.
Mitford Park will also be a hub of activity, with food trucks and stage programming as spectators gather to cheer on athletes.
Residents near the race route, parking areas, shuttle locations or event areas are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow posted signage or direction from event staff.
