(Cochrane, AB) —This holiday season, Cochrane is set to sparkle once again as the second annual Merry & Bright awards return. Residents and businesses are encouraged to help illuminate the season by decorating their homes and businesses.
From December 1–12, Cochranites can submit nominations for their home, a neighbour’s holiday display, or a local business that stands out with its festive décor. Multiple nominations are welcome (with permission), limited to one nomination per property.
“The Merry and Bright Awards are all about celebrating the neighbours and local businesses who help make Cochrane shine,“ says Michelle Ambrose, Director of Parks and Active Living, Town of Cochrane. “ It’s a chance to nominate the people you appreciate, get out to enjoy the displays, and take part in a community-wide initiative that brings connection, creativity and a little extra brightness to the season for everyone.”
After nominations close, the community is invited to help choose their favourite displays from across Cochrane. Between December 16–21, residents can view the online map of participants, explore the displays throughout town, and vote once per category. Votes should consider creativity, use of lights, theme and overall presentation.
Residential categories include:
- Best Traditional Lights Display
- Best Small Display (Garden, Patio, Window)
- Best Large Display (Full Yard/House)
- Best Block/Street Display (3+ coordinated homes)
Business categories (new this year):
- Best Storefront/Window Display
- Best Group Display (3+ coordinated businesses)

Prizes will be awarded to the top entry in each category, recognizing the creativity and enthusiasm that help make the holiday season in Cochrane so memorable.
