(Cochrane, AB) — The Town of Cochrane is inviting residents to show off their Halloween spirit with Spooky & Bright, a new community-wide decorating contest launching this October.
Building on the success of Cochrane’s Merry & Bright contest and feedback from residents interested in a Halloween edition, Spooky & Bright gives residents another opportunity to get creative, decorate their homes and explore spooktacular displays throughout the community.
From October 12–23, residents can nominate their own home or a neighbour’s display. From spooky front porches and elaborate yards to decorated windows, balconies and kid-friendly displays, decorations of all sizes and styles are encouraged.
“Spooky & Bright is a fun way to celebrate the creativity and community spirit we see throughout Cochrane,” says Michelle Ambrose, Director of Parks and Active Living, Town of Cochrane. “Whether you go all out or add a few Halloween touches to your porch or window, we hope residents will get involved, explore their neighbourhoods and enjoy the displays together.”
After nominations close, participating displays will be added to an interactive online map, making it easy for residents to explore decorated homes throughout Cochrane. From October 26–31, residents can tour the displays and vote for their favourites.
Award categories include:
· Best small display: For smaller yards, porches, windows, balconies or other limited spaces.
· Best large display: For larger-scale displays that transform the yard or exterior of the home.
· Scariest display: For the display that delivers the biggest fright through atmosphere, creativity, props, lighting, sound and/or special effects.
· Best kid-friendly display: For a fun, imaginative and welcoming Halloween display that’s especially enjoyable for young children.
Residents are encouraged to consider creativity, attention to detail and theme execution when voting.
Winners will be announced November 3, with the winner of each category receiving a $100 gift card to a local Cochrane business of their choice. Each participating display is eligible to win one category.
