First-ever Cochrane Youth Summit 2026 brings students together to lead, learn and connect

(Cochrane, AB) Cochrane Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) and the Family Resource Network (FRN) invites youth in grades 9 to 12 to take part in the first-ever Cochrane Youth Summit 2026, a full-day event focused on connection, empowerment and community leadership. This event is free to local youth thanks to Building Safer Community Fund.

Taking place on Wednesday, March 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cochrane RancheHouse (101 RancheHouse Rd.), the Summit offers an exciting lineup of keynote presentations, interactive workshops and fun experiences designed by and for local youth.

“The Youth Summit is an opportunity for young people in our community to share their voices, build connections and gain tools to make a difference,” says Matt Knox, Director, Social Development, Community Services. “We are proud to support an event that celebrates youth leadership and creates space for important conversations.”

The day begins with opening remarks and a blessing from Cree-Métis Elder Cheryle Chagnon-Greyeyes. Students will then hear from keynote speaker Ryan Straschnitzki, who shares his story of resilience following the Humboldt Broncos bus crash and speaks about mental toughness, overcoming adversity and positivity.

Throughout the day, participants will choose from a variety of breakout sessions led by local organizations and community partners. Topics include stress management, sleep and mental health, healthy relationships, social media and well-being, resume writing and interview skills, youth housing and mobility, nutrition myths and Sacred Medicine Wheel teachings. A mobile escape room experience will also offer an engaging team-building challenge.

Following the afternoon sessions, youth can unwind in the “Chill Room: After the Hype,” featuring low-key hangout space and puppies from the Cochrane Humane Society before closing remarks. Lunch is provided for registered participants.

Registration is required. To ensure adequate resources for attending students, registration is encouraged before March 13, 2026. To learn more or register, contact FCSS at 403-851-2250 or fcss@cochrane.ca, or visit cochrane.ca/youthsummit.
