Cultivate Cochrane Society is a non-profit organization in Cochrane. We support Cochrane and area in learning about gardening in a very tough climate. In addition, we teach people about food sustainability, climate change, the environment, permaculture, alternative forms of energy, and other related topics. Our mobile greenhouse has visited every school in Cochrane and several others in Airdrie and Calgary. You can find us at the Cochrane Farmers Market and other community events throughout the summer.
This Spring, we have been fortunate to garner garden space so in addition to our solar roller, we can now grow significant amounts of produce, which will provide us a source of income and allow us to donate to the Cochrane Food Bank and the Cochrane Helping Hands Free Food Sheds. In the next five years, we will be building a large scale (2000+ square feet) solar power greenhouse and community hub. We are planning to have beehives and chickens, a community kitchen, workshop and meeting space, internship opportunities for students in areas such as agriculture and environmental sciences, and so much more.
We are currently recruiting volunteers to work in our garden over the summer. Besides the benefits of fresh air, exercise, and meeting people, all garden volunteers will receive a box of produce when we harvest. If you are interested, please fill out the volunteer application found on our website.
