(Cochrane, AB) – Cochrane is seeking artists local to the greater Cochrane area including to submit a proposal for up to three public sculpture installations for the Cochrane Crossing Civic Plaza, located at The Station (360 Railway Street W).
Due to timeline constraints in the original Call for Submissions, the Cochrane Crossing Civic Plaza Art Task Force extended the time to June 30, 2023 allowing artists ample time to put together a thoughtful proposal.
The intent of this artwork is to connect Cochrane’s rich history with Cochrane’s current identity and thoughtful vision for the future. Artists are encouraged to create a proposal for artwork that visually represents Cochrane’s deeply enriched roots, unique identity and community charm in connection with the aspirations that guide Cochrane today.
“Thanks to the Canada Community Revitalization Fund, the newly opened Call for Submissions provides the opportunity to extend the reach and scope of the project,” says Mitchell Hamm, Community Services Director, Town of Cochrane. “A centrally located, community-driven space, such as the Station provides an incredible opportunity to visually demonstrate Cochrane’s rich history in connection with Cochrane’s thoughtful vision for the future.”
Interested artists curious to learn more about the project scope and art installation space are invited to site orientation on April 29 at 11 am. Administration will be present to guide participants through the space, allowing artists to experience the connection between historic Cochrane and Council’s vision for a vibrant and innovative community. Artists local to the greater Cochrane area include Rocky View County, MD of Bighorn, MD of Foothills, Mountain View County and Calgary metropolitan area.
Officially opening its doors to the public in winter 2022, The Station at Cochrane Crossing serves as a space for connection. The unique space linking Historic Downtown to the commercial district hosts a multitude of purposes, including municipal services, the Cochrane Information Centre, a hub for transit and community Innovation Centre.
