Bi-weekly organics collection resumes November 11

Town of Cochrane organics bin placed in driveway

(Cochrane, AB) — Starting November 11, curbside collection will return to its winter schedule with organics carts collected every two weeks. Organics (green carts) will not be collected the week of November 11, with bi-weekly collection resuming the following week.

Collecting organics bi-weekly reflects the reduced demand in the winter – as residents have less yard waste. By switching to the winter schedule, Cochrane reduces fleet emissions and helps manage the cost of waste collection.

To make winter waste collection easier for everyone, including collectors, residents are encouraged to:

  • Clear snow and ice off carts.
  • Use paper, cardboard and certified compostable bags in the organics cart. Using a paper liner in the green cart can stop food scraps from freezing to the cart.
  • Shovel a one-metre space around the cart and allow one metre of clearance on either side of each cart.
  • Set carts out for collection by 7 a.m. on collection day with wheels on the curb.
  • Store carts when not set out for collection inside, if possible, or against a fence or wall, away from cold wind.

Recycling (blue) and waste (black) carts will continue to be collected weekly. Residents can get a digital or printable version of their collection schedule at cochrane.ca/organics. Personalized collection reminders and service notifications are available through the My Cochrane Collection App on the Apple App Store or Google Play.
