Cochrane celebrates Provincial decision to use the Ghost River location for the new Bow River Reservoir

Bow River in Cochrane

(Cochrane, AB) – Following many years of Provincial research and engagement, Cochrane Council and Administration reflect that our voices have been heard – as the Province announces that they have selected the Ghost River location for the new Bow River Reservoir.

In recent months, Cochrane advocated to the Province to pursue the Bow River Reservoir option, demonstrating the significant impact that the alternative option could have had on our community. It was anticipated that a decision would be made in the fall, and we are thankful to the Province for keeping their commitment.

“We truly believe that this decision supports the best interests of our community and we appreciate all of the work that the Province has undertaken to reach this decision,” said Mayor Jeff Genung, Town of Cochrane. “With so many stakeholders and impacted parties, decisions such as this are complex and require significant research and public engagement. I appreciate the willingness of the Province to come to the table, listen to the feedback and make the decision that’s in the best interest of all. Not only does this decision protect Cochrane, it also allows the Glenbow Park Trail and Great Trail projects to continue with confidence.

The Province announced this decision earlier today, through a media release
