(Cochrane, AB) – At their regular Council meeting on June 15, 2026, Council approved the foundational elements of the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan – providing guidance to Administration as implementation planning continues.
The Strategic Plan sets a clear direction for Cochrane over the next four years and reflects Council’s work to identify priorities for the community’s future. It establishes a framework to guide decision-making, including how the Town plans, invests and delivers services.
“The Strategic Plan was built on a foundation that includes the key priorities the Mayor and Council have heard from residents over the years, and what they promised to do during the 2025 municipal election,” said Mayor Morgan Nagel. “The Strategic Plan sets a clear direction for Cochrane over the next four years and reflects Council’s work to identify detailed priorities for the community’s future. It establishes a framework to guide decision-making, including how the Town plans, invests and delivers services.”
The plan outlines five key priority areas:
- Responsible community growth
- Strong financial strategy
- Infrastructure delivery
- A thriving economy
- Housing for people
Together, these priorities are intended to guide the Town in balancing growth, services and quality of life.
Work is now underway to define how these priorities will be put into action.
“Administration is now determining the best approaches to implement Council’s direction,” said Drew Hyndman, CAO. “This includes defining the projects, initiatives and timelines that will turn the plan into action. This work is already underway and will continue following Council’s review.”
Administration will return to Council in the fall with a comprehensive Corporate Business Plan and implementation framework outlining key projects, initiatives and timelines for Council's consideration.
The Strategic Plan focuses on key priorities for the future, alongside the core services residents rely on every day. Maintaining infrastructure, delivering programs and supporting the day-to-day operation of the community will continue alongside this work.
