(Cochrane, AB) – The Public Hearing for the Envision Cochrane 2050 draft plan was held yesterday, marking a significant step in shaping the future direction of Cochrane’s growth and development. Envision Cochrane 2050 (the Plan) will replace the Town’s previous Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and guide growth, infrastructure and land use decisions for the next 25 years. The Plan will be reviewed every five years to ensure it continues to reflect our communities’ priorities, values and aspirations.
Hearing from the public has been a priority throughout the development of this Plan, with a robust engagement process that took three rounds of feedback over 18 months, allowing for opportunities to collect meaningful community input at every stage.
"Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts and participated in shaping the future of Cochrane," said Drew Hyndman, Executive Director, Development and Infrastructure. “Our last MDP was created in 2008, and, since then, Cochrane has experienced significant growth. This new plan will replace the former one establishing new Town objectives and generalized policies for growth, land use, mobility, economic development, parks and recreation, housing, community safety, servicing and arts and culture.“
Feedback from the hearing will be reviewed by Council as they prepare for Second Reading of the Plan on December 9, 2024. Following this review, the Plan will be submitted to the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board (CMRB) for consideration. If the CMRB confirms alignment with its Regional Growth Plan, Council will proceed to Third Reading in March 2025. Upon approval, Envision Cochrane 2050 will become a critical tool for guiding future municipal decisions.
