Cochrane Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) has partnered with Calgary Legal Guidance to provide a free, local legal clinic on Saturday, May 25. The clinic will provide residents with access to both individual legal advice and group information sessions.
Lawyers covering family law, civil law, immigration law, and wills and estates offer complimentary legal advice tailored to individual circumstances. These consultations are available to residents of Cochrane, West Rocky View County, and Mînî Thnî residing in low-income households. Additionally, two legal presentations are scheduled for general information seekers. From 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., residents can learn about wills and estates. Following that, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., a presentation on divorce will take place.
Access to free legal assistance has been identified as a community need. The legal clinic, offered between Cochrane FCSS and Calgary Legal Guidance fulfills this gap. Financial constraints often hinder access to legal support. The legal clinic eliminates this barrier, ensuring all residents receive necessary assistance,” says Kim Krawec, Manager of Family and Community Support Services.
Calgary Legal Guidance aims to provide legal assistance, information and support to people who would not otherwise have access to such services. Volunteer lawyers ensure that individuals experiencing financial constraints have the legal information they need to navigate the system fairly and adequately by making legal advice more accessible and helping residents feel greater confidence in taking the next steps regarding their legal matters.
The legal clinic is open to all low-income residents living in Cochrane, Western Rocky View County and Mînî Thnî. To book an individual meeting with a lawyer or register for an information session call FCSS at 403-851-2250. Residents are encouraged to contact FCSS if they are not sure they qualify but would like to discuss their unique situation.
