The Town of Cochrane is pleased to announce a $40,000 donation from Home Treasures to support more Age-Friendly, accessible public spaces across the community. The donation will fund 11 new benches to be installed in parks and along key walking routes, creating more places for residents to pause, rest and connect.
Home Treasures was inspired to give after reviewing Cochrane’s Age-Friendly Action Plan, choosing a practical improvement that will make it easier for residents of all ages to enjoy the outdoors - especially seniors and those with mobility needs.
“This is the kind of investment that improves daily life in a real, visible way,” said Matt Knox, Director, Social Development, Community Services, Town of Cochrane. “These benches mean more opportunities for seniors, families, and people facing mobility barriers to get outside, stay active, and feel welcome in our public spaces. We’re grateful to Home Treasures for stepping up with a significant gift that that advances Cochrane’s Age-Friendly Action Plan and strengthens community connection.
To ensure consistency across Town spaces and support efficient maintenance, the benches will match those used in the Town’s Memorial Bench Program. Bench locations will be selected by the Town’s Parks team based on where seating is most needed. Installation will take place over approximately two years.
“We wanted our donation to have a lasting impact that people can feel every day,” said Dawn Thone, Chair, Treasures for Your Home Society. “Accessible seating helps more people enjoy Cochrane’s parks and pathways—whether they’re taking a break, meeting a neighbour, or spending time outdoors with family. We’re proud to support the Town’s Age-Friendly work in a way that’s tangible and community-focused.”
A formal cheque presentation will be held in February with Town representatives, Age-Friendly initiative partners and local media invited to attend.
The Town looks forward to sharing stories of the community builders recognized through this program as benches are installed, beginning in summer 2026.
