New Paved Pathway To Connect Sunset Ridge

(Cochrane, AB) – The Town of Cochrane and Melcor Developments Ltd. (Melcor) will begin construction on a new paved pathway, connecting Sunset Ridge to existing Cochrane trails.

The temporary road behind Sunset View will be paved to restore greenspace and replace an existing informal pathway. Established by Melcor for construction access in early 2022, the site's original restoration plan included returning the area to its original natural state. Now, supported by residents, Cochrane Administration and Melcor will work collaboratively to develop a critical link in Cochrane's pathway system by adopting the construction of a permanent paved pathway into its site rehabilitation plan.

"We are fortunate as a community to work with developers that understand and align with Council and Administration's priorities. We are committed to community connectivity, enhancing open space & natural areas and furthering the livability of Cochrane," says Drew Hyndman, Executive Director, Development & Infrastructure Services, Town of Cochrane. "This partnership demonstrates how Cochrane is creating efficiencies strategically by evaluating future community needs and current opportunities."

“Melcor is very pleased to partner with the Town and collaborate in building lasting amenities for residents in Sunset Ridge.” Says Alan Boucher, Regional Manager, Melcor Developments Ltd. “This paved pathway extension is one example of how partnership between municipalities and developers can create opportunities to optimize resources and work collaboratively to benefit both the Town and residents.  Thank you to Administration and Council for your support in bringing forward these types of partnerships.”

Melcor will contribute $285,000 to fund the total cost of the project. With construction lasting approximately six to eight weeks, the paved pathway is expected to open for use in Fall 2022 (weather and conditions permitting). For safety, the area will remain closed during construction until the pathway is complete.
