Cochrane AB – An investigation is underway following yesterday’s structure fire in the Heartland community. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
The Town of Cochrane recognizes that this incident has had a significant impact on residents. Several homes were heavily damaged, and individuals and families were displaced during the emergency response. We understand how distressing and disruptive this situation is, and our thoughts are with everyone affected.
“Our hearts go out to those families and individuals affected by this fire. On behalf of the community, I want to thank our emergency responders, Town teams and partner agencies for responding so quickly and working together to keep people safe,” said Mayor Morgan Nagel. "I also want to recognize the strength and compassion shown by our community in supporting those impacted.”
The Canadian Red Cross is working with affected residents to provide support. The Town of Cochrane thanks community members for their support during this time and extends its appreciation to partner agencies for their assistance and collaboration throughout the response.
During the incident, emergency crews safely rescued a cat from a home. The animal received oxygen using a pet rescue mask and was transported to veterinary care.

April 30, 2026 - 8:45 p.m.
Update: Structure fire in Heartland
Cochrane AB – Cochrane Fire Services remains on scene in the Heartland area following a structure fire. The bulk of the fire has been knocked down, and crews are continuing to monitor the area.
There are no reported injuries at this time. The incident has impacted six multi-family units in the Heartland community.
Representatives from Cochrane Family and Community Support Services and Cochrane Victim Services are on scene providing support to displaced residents.
Cochrane Fire Services would like to acknowledge the assistance of mutual aid partners, including Calgary Fire Department, Rocky View County Fire Services and Redwood Meadows Fire Department.
The public is asked to continue avoiding the area while crews remain on scene.
