Cochrane AB - At approximately 02:10 a.m. this morning, Cochrane Fire Services responded to reports of a structure fire in River Heights in Cochrane. On arrival, a single outbuilding was fully involved and due to the quick action of the firefighters, the fire was contained in an unoccupied outbuilding on the property.
Cochrane firefighters, along with assistance from two fire stations in Rocky View County, worked diligently in challenging conditions to extinguish the fire, which was wrapped up around 05:30 a.m. Despite temperatures approaching -30 Celsius, there were no injuries reported among the firefighters.
Due to the cold weather and lack of wind, there may be residual steam and a slight odour of smoke lingering in the area through the morning hours. This is normal given the circumstances of the fire. As the property is adjacent to Highway 22, drivers passing by may observe the steam and smell the odour of smoke. Residents and passersby are assured that there is no immediate danger. However, if any smoke or fire is observed, we urge individuals to dial 911 immediately for assistance.
Cochrane fire investigator is currently on the scene, and the fire is under investigation. There are no further details regarding the cause.
Cochrane Fire Services thanks the community for their cooperation and understanding during this incident.
