Township Road 262 reopens after major upgrade

Township road 262 reopens

(Cochrane, AB) – Township Road 262 has reopened to the public following a major road upgrade that enhances connectivity between Horse Creek Road and Range Road 43.  Closed since August 5, 2025, the roadway officially reopened on December 8, 2025.

The project replaced the existing 1.6 km gravel road connecting Horse Creek Road and Range Road 43 with a paved roadway, a multi-modal pathway and deep utilities to support current and future service needs.

Preliminary design work began in 2021 through the Town and the engineering consultant, advancing to 60% design in 2024. The design was then passed on to the developer of West Hawk for design completion and construction. Final drawings were approved on July 18, 2025, with construction starting shortly after on August 5.

The upgrade was coordinated with early work on the Horse Creek Sports Park, allowing shared efficiencies in deep utility servicing and site preparation.

The completed roadway offers smoother travel and decreases the maintenance associated with the previous gravel surface.
