Find it in Cochrane- Shop Local

(Cochrane, AB) –As global economic challenges continue to evolve, the Town of Cochrane is calling on residents to support the strength and resilience of our community by choosing to shop and do business locally.

Cochrane is home to more than 2,400 unique and vibrant businesses—from family-run boutiques and cozy cafés to skilled trades and professional services—that reflect the entrepreneurial spirit and community pride that define our town. These local businesses are not only vital to Cochrane’s economy but are also an integral part of our identity.

Supporting local businesses means more than just making a purchase. It’s an investment in our neighbours, job creation, reduced environmental impact and a stronger, more self-reliant Cochrane.

“In times of global uncertainty, especially with instability south of the border, it’s more important than ever to rally around our local businesses,” says Mayor Jeff Genung. “We have so much to offer right here in Cochrane. When you support local, you’re supporting your neighbours, creating jobs and strengthening our community. We can’t control what’s happening globally, but we can control where we shop—and we can shop local.”

To celebrate, showcase and strengthen Cochrane’s vibrant business community, the Town—together with the Cochrane & Area Chamber of Commerce—has launched the Find it in Cochrane campaign. This collaborative initiative is designed to raise awareness, spark community pride, and encourage residents to support the local businesses that shape Cochrane’s unique identity and drive our local economy.

Alongside this campaign, the Town continues to support entrepreneurs through initiatives like the Cochrane Business Incubator and a suite of online resources that guide businesses through every stage of their development. Regular engagement with local business owners, including feedback through tools like the Business Impact Assessment Survey, ensures our efforts remain responsive, relevant, and rooted in the real needs of our community.

Digital tools are playing a key role in the Find it in Cochrane campaign, making it easier than ever for residents and visitors to connect with local businesses. The Cochrane Business Directory offers a convenient, one-stop listing of businesses across town, while the Cochrane Business Newsletter keeps the community informed with regular updates, news and opportunities. Residents can subscribe at cochrane.ca/newsletter.

“Local businesses create local jobs—and you can find hundreds of them in Cochrane’s business directories,” says Dwayne Lamontagne, President of the Cochrane & Area Chamber of Commerce. “Visit Cochrane.ca or the Chamber website to explore what’s here.”
