Unveiling Cochrane’s cultural tapestry: Public art celebration

The Town of Cochrane is excited to invite residents and visitors to a vibrant celebration on Saturday, May 10, 2025, as we unveil three new public art installations outside of The Station at Cochrane Crossing. From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., this event will mark a significant milestone in Cochrane’s cultural journey, underscoring our commitment to community connection through the power of public art.

This celebration is the culmination of the Cochrane Crossing Civic Plaza Art Project, a community-driven initiative rooted in storytelling, belonging, and creative expression. Since its opening in 2022, The Station has become a symbolic meeting point between Cochrane’s rich heritage and its exciting future. The unveiling of these three permanent installations reflects the Town’s ongoing dedication to creating spaces that not only inspire but also represent the identity and diversity of Cochrane’s residents.

The afternoon kicks off with remarks from Mayor Jeff Genung, followed by a symbolic unveiling of three new public art pieces by the Arts Task Force - powerful additions to Cochrane’s growing creative landscape. The featured artists – Karen Ho Fatt, Malann Klassen and Lara Kruger – will share the inspirations and creative processes behind their work, offering a deeper understanding of the cultural elements woven into their designs.

“These artworks are more than just additions to public space; they embody who we are and who we’re becoming as a community,” said Michelle Delorme, Director of Parks & Active Living. “They reflect Cochrane’s commitment to collaboration, cultural inclusion, and building a future where every voice contributes to our collective story.”

This free, family-friendly event is a chance for everyone to come together, celebrate public art, and be inspired by Cochrane’s dynamic and ever-evolving cultural and creative landscape. The artists will remain on site after the formal program to engage with attendees and answer questions until the event concludes at 6 p.m.
