(Cochrane, AB) – Community events play an important role in Cochrane’s identity, bringing people together to celebrate what it means to be a Cochranite. Following one of the community’s most beloved winter traditions, the Town of Cochrane is sharing how resident feedback is helping guide the future of Cochrane Light Up and Canada Day as the community continues to grow and evolve.
After the 41st Annual Cochrane Light Up, held November 29, 2025 in Historic Downtown Cochrane, the Town invited residents to share their experiences and ideas through a post-event survey. Feedback from 252 responses highlighted what attendees value most about Light Up, what worked well and where there are opportunities to thoughtfully evolve the event—while maintaining the traditions that make it special. Residents expressed strong appreciation for the community atmosphere and overall experience, and offered suggestions such as improving crowd flow, adding more ways to stay warm and creating a more noticeable “Light-up” moment.
The Town recognizes the many people who make these community events possible.
“Light-Up is a tradition that holds a special place in Cochrane, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped make this year’s event such a success—especially the volunteer organizing committee and all partners and staff who supported the event,” says Michelle Ambrose, Director, Parks & Active Living. “Listening to our community helps us respect what people love about Light Up, while ensuring the event continues to grow with Cochrane and reflect who we are as a community.”
Gathering feedback is part of a broader commitment to ensuring Town-led events remain meaningful, welcoming and enjoyable for all. In addition to Light Up, the Town also surveyed residents following Canada Day—another important community celebration supported by the Town—to better understand what people enjoy and how events can continue to improve as Cochrane evolves.
