Positive ticket program returns to celebrate youth and strengthen community safety

(Cochrane, AB.) - Beginning June 2, in alignment with Bike & E-Scooter Safety Week, the Positive Ticket Program reflects the Town of Cochrane’s commitment to supporting young people and fostering a safe, caring community. Rooted in prevention, education and positive connection, the program is led by Cochrane Municipal Enforcement in collaboration with the RCMP and the Southern Alberta Regional Victim Serving Society (SARVSS), recognizing youth who are making thoughtful, responsible choices in their everyday lives.

“The Positive Ticket Program is about leading with recognition, not reaction,” says Flynn Scott, Manager, Municipal Enforcement. “When we acknowledge young people for making responsible choices, we strengthen trust, reinforce safe behaviours and show that enforcement is here to support and guide, not just respond.”

Throughout the summer, officers’ will issue Positive Tickets to youth observed demonstrating safe, considerate and community-minded behaviour. Each ticket includes a small reward from participating local businesses, reflecting the shared belief that encouraging positive actions helps shape a stronger Cochrane for everyone.

Bike & E-Scooter Safety Week sets the tone by promoting awareness, shared responsibility and safe riding practices across Cochrane’s pathways and roadways. It is an opportunity for families, youth and community partners to come together around a common goal of keeping one another safe.

“Education is the foundation of lifelong safety and confidence,” says Carly Davies, Manager of Parks & Recreation Services. “By helping young people develop safe riding skills and an understanding of how to navigate our community responsibly, we are supporting their independence while creating safer spaces for everyone.”

The Positive Ticket Program runs from June 2 through the September long weekend and is highlighted at key community events throughout the summer.
