(Cochrane, AB) – The Town of Cochrane is celebrating recent announcements from the Government of Alberta supporting two new school projects in the community, including design funding for a future high school at the Horse Creek Sports Park site and construction funding for a new K-8 school in the Rivercrest neighbourhood.

Horse Creek Sports Park is a long-term, multi-phase project designed to support Cochrane’s growing population and future recreation needs. The site was identified in partnership with Rocky View Schools as the location for a future high school that will integrate with a broader community sports and recreation area immediately north of the community of Heritage Hills.

In 2025, the Town completed significant site preparation and servicing work to support both the future school and the broader sports park vision. This work included site stripping and grading, utility servicing to support the future high school, installation of water and sanitary sewer connections, upgrades to Township Road 262, and initial construction of the storm pond.

“The Town has been proud to partner with Rocky View Schools to prepare the Horse Creek site and build a shared vision for a future school and community sports hub,” said Mayor Morgan Nagel. “By completing this work, we’ve helped ensure the site is ready when the Province moves the project forward.”

Earlier this week, the Province also announced construction funding for a new K-8 school in the Rivercrest neighbourhood. Construction funding means the project can now move ahead to the building stage.

The Town would like to congratulate Rocky View Schools, the Board of Trustees and school division administration for their continued advocacy and leadership in supporting students and families across the region. Their efforts have played an important role in advancing new school projects for Cochrane.

The Town also recognizes the Government of Alberta for investing in new school infrastructure to support Alberta’s rapidly growing communities.

“Cochrane is one of the fastest-growing communities in Alberta, and that growth has placed real pressure on our schools,” said Nagel. “Investments like this are critical to ensuring our growing community has the classrooms our students need.”
