(Cochrane, AB) – As Cochrane shakes off winter and prepares for the warmer months ahead, the Town’s annual residential street sweeping program will begin in early May, helping clear away the sand and debris left behind from winter. Town of Cochrane Roads crews began pre-sweeping on April 13, 2026, for which curbs and roads are not required to be cleared.

Street sweeping is an important spring maintenance activity as it improves road safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, protects storm drains and waterways, and helps keep Cochrane’s neighbourhoods clean.

This work is a team effort between Town crews and residents. While the Town’s Roads team will be working throughout the community to sweep streets curb-to-curb, residents play an important role in helping the program run smoothly and efficiently.

“Street sweeping is one of the ways we refresh our neighbourhoods after winter,” says Shane Hubl, Director of Operations, Town of Cochrane. “Our crews will be out early each morning as weather permits from May 4 to May 22. When residents take a few minutes to move vehicles and clear the street, it helps us ensure we’re keeping our community as clean and as safe as it can be.”

How residents can help:

  • Watch for signage: Notification signs will be placed at neighbourhood entrances 72 hours before sweeping begins in that area. During that time, a temporary parking ban will be in effect to ensure crews can sweep curb-to-curb.
  • Know your schedule: Each neighbourhood is assigned a specific weekday for street sweeping that does not overlap with waste and recycling collection days.

Before your neighbourhood's street sweeping day:

  • Move vehicles off the street by 8 a.m. on your scheduled day
  • Use driveways, alleys or nearby parking areas during sweeping hours
  • Remove items from the road, including curb ramps, basketball or hockey nets
  • Sweep debris from your driveway or curb into the street so crews can collect it
  • Clear gutters and areas around your home to prevent debris from entering storm drains

Vehicles or objects left in the roadway may prevent crews from sweeping those areas, which can leave sections of the street uncleaned.

Residents can be prepared by:

  • Viewing the neighbourhood schedule at cochrane.ca/sweep
  • Downloading the Town of Cochrane app to receive reminders
  • Following @TownofCochrane on social media for daily updates

Weather conditions may affect the schedule, and updates will be confirmed by 8 a.m. each day.

By working together, residents and Town crews can help keep Cochrane’s streets clean, safe and ready for spring.
