(Cochrane, AB) – Cochrane Town Council recognized Dr. Dennis Fundytus as the recipient of the prestigious 2025 Order of Cochrane award, during this evening’s regular Council meeting.

Presented annually, the Order of Cochrane honours individuals whose commitment, leadership and vision have made a lasting impact on the community. Nominees are put forward by residents and selected by Council through a confidential voting process.

Recipient, Dr. Fundytus, is recognized for his decades of service and contributions to healthcare in Cochrane. Throughout his 40-year medical career, he played

a key role in advancing local healthcare services, including the establishment of Cochrane’s ambulance system, development of urgent care services and leadership in the Calgary Foothills Primary Care Network.

“Dr. Fundytus’ lifelong dedication to caring for others has had a profound impact on our community,” says Town of Cochrane Mayor, Morgan Nagel. “His leadership and humility have helped shape healthcare in Cochrane, leaving a legacy that will benefit residents for generations.”

In retirement, Dr. Fundytus remains actively involved in the community, co-founding the Cochrane EMS Citizen Action Club and the Cochrane & Area Health Foundation to advocate for improved emergency services and better access to healthcare.

In addition to the in-council award ceremony, Dr. Fundytus will also be recognized during this year’s Volunteer Appreciation Event on April 22.
