Backpack program returns, helping families alleviate costs associated with back-to-school

The Cochrane and Area Family Resource Network (FRN), in collaboration with Staples and the Kiwanis Club of Cochrane, is thrilled to announce the return of the highly anticipated backpack program.

This critical initiative helps to alleviate the inherent stress and financial strain that often accompanies the beginning of a new academic year. The program is dedicated to providing students from kindergarten to grade 12 with essential back-to-school supplies, fostering a smooth and successful start to the school year.

"A growing number of families in our community are facing financial challenges. Equipping families with backpacks and essential school supplies plays a pivotal role in dismantling the financial obstacles associated with the back-to-school season,” says Kim Krawec, Manager of FCSS, Town of Cochrane. “This program relies heavily on community donations. We are incredibly grateful to Staples, the Kiwanis Club of Cochrane and community donors for their ongoing support.”

Applications for the program must be done in person and will be accepted at the Family Resource Network between August 22 to September 30. Applicants are required to provide proof of enrollment in a Cochrane or West Rocky View County school, along with GST documentation that enlists dependent children. Residents without proper documentation can call to book an appointment with a Resource Worker at the FRN.

Donations for this valuable program are accepted at Staples (40 Quarry Str E) or the FRN (127 First Ave W). For more information on the Backpack Program, visit Cochrane.ca/backtoschool or call 403.851.2265.
