Cochrane residents talk money during financial literacy month

This November, Cochrane and area residents take part in Financial Literacy Month (FLM) by joining the national conversation about money. The 2025 theme, Talk Money, encourages people to break down barriers and have open, honest discussions about finances - at home, at work and throughout the community.

The Town of Cochrane’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) leads this local initiative in partnership with community organizations, providing residents with tools and resources to build financial confidence, resilience and overall well-being.

While money is often seen as a difficult or even taboo topic, talking about it reduces stress, builds stronger money habits and supports informed decision-making. Whether it’s budgeting, saving, borrowing, or planning for the future, starting the conversation is the first step toward financial empowerment.

“When we talk openly about money, we don’t just improve our own financial knowledge. We strengthen our community,” says Kim Krawec, Manager, Family and Community Support Services, Town of Cochrane. “Financial literacy grows when people share experiences, ask questions and support one another. This year’s theme, Talk Money, reminds us that building financial confidence is not something we do alone. It is something we do together.”

Throughout November, FCSS hosts free workshops and programs to support residents of all ages and life stages in developing practical financial skills.
